Camp National
My name is Tess, and I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2008 when I was 8 years old. My life changed forever when I was diagnosed. The hardest part is having to constantly stop my activities to deal with the responsibilities of diabetes. Still, I know it's important for me to continue to do what I love in the long run. Although having diabetes is difficult, the American Diabetes Association's Camp made it easier for me because I realized I wasn't alone.
Some might not know this, but kids with diabetes can go to camp because of Tour de Cure® and other fundraising events. Without these funds raised, Camp wouldn't be possible. Plus, it's a blast to ride along side of my friends, my family, and other loved ones knowing that I am doing my part.
Seeing the support of from all the Red Riders® and Red Striders® and everyone I know from Camp is such an amazing feeling and one of the best things about Tour de Cure. Since I love cycling, Tour de Cure lets me do what I love to do while I help raise money to fight diabetes and keep the campfire burning!
Join me and form your own Camp Friends & Family team to ensure everyone has a chance to experience Camp like I do.
