Thank you for helping me to Stop Diabetes!!!
Hello! Welcome to my page! I'm glad you're here. It means the world to me. I'm the founder of the Red Rider Program. You see that logo, the Red Rider logo, the one on the jerseys of more than 15,000 people with diabetes across the USA, yes, that was my idea. You see, I have had diabetes, type 1, since June 26, 1981. In 2022 that will be 41 years. I was 16 when I found out I had diabetes. There's a LOT of diabetes in the world. We need YOUR HELP! To Stop Diabetes.
I created the Red Riders because I know how hard it is to live well with diabetes, and the Tour de Cure is our day to get some love and to demonstate and show the world that we are what diabetes looks like.
In 2022, I will have lived successfully with diabetes for 41 years.
In 2015, on July 7th, my father died of many health challenges that resulted of his 49 years living with type 1 diabetes. He had kidney failure, he survived a failed pancreas transplant, and in the end, he also had heart failure.
For myself, for my father, for the hundreds of people I personally know who have diabetes, for all of us, I'm going to ride at the in-person Tour de Cure.
I've decided to raise $1,000.00 to make it all worthwhile.
Please help me out.
Will you help me change the future of diabetes?
You can put any dollar amount in the "Other Amount" box.
- Perhaps you'd like to give $34, for the 34 million people who live with diabetes in the United States.
- Maybe the number that makes sense to you is $41, for the years I have lived with diabetes.
- Or maybe $49 for the number of years my father lived with diabetes.
Every penny you donate means the world to me.
I am riding because the American Diabetes Association's Tour de Cure is so much more than a cycling event to me. It is my opportunity to change the future and make a positive impact in the lives of those who are affected by diabetes.
I am committed to ride and raise money in this inspirational event not because 30 million people in the United States have diabetes, but because I personally know a lot of them, and I want to do something about it. Won’t you help me start a chain reaction?
Chances are, you also know someone who has been affected by diabetes and you already know how important it is to stop this disease. By making a donation on my behalf or by joining my team, you will be helping the American Diabetes Association provide community-based education programs, protect the rights of people with diabetes and fund critical research for a cure.
With your help, we will fight for a future where a parent does not have to hear that their child has diabetes. A future where an adult does not have to face the uncertain times ahead after receiving a diabetes diagnosis. A future where you and I will know that we had a part in making this possible. One of the places your money goes is to Camp Needlepoint, a diabetes camp for children. I went there soon after I was diagnosed!
I appreciate your support. Together we can Stop Diabetes!
Thank you for stopping by, for joining my team this year, and for making a donation and for caring to help Stop Diabetes with me!!
"GO RED RIDER!" means I love you & I appreciate all it takes to live well with diabetes!
In wellness and appreciation,
Mari
