Amount Raised: $16,040.00
Goal: $12,500.00
Join Robert and me at our Tour de Cure 2023 on Sunday, October 1!
2023 will mark my 50th year of fundraising for the American Diabetes Association ... and my 32nd year riding in the Tour de Cure! In honor of this milestone, I am hoping to form a team of 50 people. Even if you haven't been on a bike for some time, you can definitely do this ride:
1. You have almost 5 months to train;
2. You can ride any route you want, including the nice, flat 10-mile route;
3. The ADA has rest stops throughout each route with toilets, snacks, water, beverages and bike
repair tools;
4. They also have "sag wags" to help with breakdowns and to even carry you and your bike back to
our gathering place, if you can't finish your route!
5. You can ride an electric bike!
AND, if you are interested, you have the option of riding a longer route: 30, 60, or 100 miles! The longer rides begin earlier; so, we'd all get together for a team picture and lunch at the end. (Tom from the ADA tells me that, if I can get 50 people, we'll have our own tent at lunch! (hoping, hoping, hoping)
So, please join my team now and start goal-setting! Be sure to invite your friends and family to join us, too ... I don't have to know everyone that joins my team. But Robert and I will sponsor a team get-together before the ride; so, we'll all get to know each other. And we'll have team t-shirts to commemorate the occasion.
The history: Diabetes is rampant in my family: my mom, my dad, my dad's family, my sisters and I all have diabetes. Until my sister, Judy, died in 2019, I walked or rode in her honor ... our team, Judy's Precious Pals, is even named after her (she was an ardent collector of Precious Moments.)
Judy lived with diabetes since she was a child; she died of complications from the very procedure that qualified her to receive a kidney transplant. We miss her terribly. Judy lived a remarkable and courageous life. In 2015, her leg was amputated as a complication of her lifelong diabetes. We were so proud of how well she did with her prosthetic leg, “Miss Peggy,” walking and driving her car on her own!!
Judy’s life experience has underscored the devastation wrought by this terrible disease and the importance of raising the funds to fight it. My personal fundraising goal this year is $5,000 and my team goal is $12,500. So, even if you choose not to ride with me, please consider making a donation ... and encouraging others to do so, as well.
Will you help me achieve -- or exceed -- this goal?
JOIN ME! And thank you for your generosity to this cause that is so important to me and those I love!
Love, Rosemarie
