This summer, the Wheel Cure It team will be riding in the American Diabetes Association's Tour de Cure fund-raising event. To support an individual team member with a donation, click on the red "Donate" button next to their name below.
Why Ride?
Tour de Cure is a fundraiser, but it's also a community-building event. We ride to raise money, but more than that we ride support our friends and family. It can make a difference to someone suffering from diabetes (especially a young person) to discover that there are others around them going through the same thing.
Our Goal
We know there are a lot of charities competing for your time and money. In riding the 2023 Tour, we are donating our cycling time to a good cause. In exchange, we hope you will consider donating money to the ADA on our behalf. We're commited to this event. Most of us have ridden it 8 or more times, and together we have helped raise more than $27,000 for diabetes research and programs.
The Impact of Diabetes
Diabetes affects millions of people worldwide, and its impact on our lives will continue to increase. Recent studies suggest that a 50-year-old with diabetes dies six years sooner than someone without the disease, and that doesn't even account for other side-effects like nerve damage and blindness. To put that in context, long-term smoking shortens life by 10 years. The CDC estimates that 1 in 3 adults could have diabetes by 2050, up from 1 in 10 today. We ride to support those who have the disease today, and those who will have it someday in the future.
