WE RIDE/RUN/WALK. WE DONATE. WE VOLUNTEER. WE RAISE FUNDS. WE INSPIRE. WE RAISE AWARENESS.
Team Joe Nedza was started by Bill Nedza, Joe's son, to continue Bill's support of the American Diabetes Association, which began in 2003. Bill had heard about Tour de Cure, and being a cyclist who had family members with diabetes, he got involved riding the events, fundraising, and volunteering. In 2014 Bill took on the position of Chairperson of the Chicagoland Tour de Cure Volunteer Planning Committee, and that year the Chicagoland Tour was #1 of all the Tours in the country in percentage growth of funds raised and percentage of rider growth.
WE HAVE A GOAL OF RAISING $25,000 FOR THE MISSION!!
On August 31st of 2010, Joe, who after many years of living with and fighting against Type 2 diabetes, passed away from a combination of physical complications. We know he would have lived longer had he not had to battle the effects of diabetes for so many years. Every time Bill finished a Tour de Cure the first call he made was to his Dad, and his first words were "well, how did you do?", because Bill always had set a goal for the ride so he could challenge himself. Now his first call is to his Mom, Joan, who also suffers from Type 2 diabetes, and he tells her how the ride went. She is a great supporter not only for Bill but for the fight against diabetes -- and she's a great example of how healthy living can help a person deal with the Type 2 diabetes. Joan was able to see the 2016 Chicagloand Tour de Cure in person, and we know she and Joe are proud of Bill's efforts.
In 2017 Bill himself was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes -- family genetics is something you can't ride your bike away from, even if you ride 4,000 miles a year. Bill controls his diabetes thru diet and exercise, but realizes that his life has forever been changed with the diagnosis. Diabetes does not take a day off. And while Bill has diabetes, diabetes doesn't have him!! He's become a member of a group nobody ever wants to be a member of, but they are all "Diabadasses"!!!
We're teaming up to change the future and make a positive impact in the lives of those who are affected by diabetes. We're committed to participate together and raise money through this inspirational event not just because nearly 30 million people in the United States have diabetes, but because we personally know many, many of them, and want to do something about it.If you can't join us, support us!!!! By making a donation or joining our team, you'll be helping the ADA provide community-based education programs, protect the rights of people with diabetes, fund critical research for a cure and treatments, promote and expand advocacy, and help find a cure!!!! We are asking for your support. Please make a donation to one of our team members or join us by registering on our team. When we bring together dedicated team members and kind donors, the power we have as a group far outweighs what any of us could do alone. We are determined to reach our team goal, one person at a time. So let's get in gear and make a difference together!
PLEASE NOTE!!!!: Due to the COVID virus, the typcial big "live" ride event as we've done in past years won't take place this year (safety first!!), but throughout the year, and on September 26th especially (!!), my teammates and I, and many other teams and participants, will be riding, walking, and running, but always keeping safety first in mind. We'll be sending updates on our progress in miles and funds raised!
