I am riding in American Diabetes Association's Tour's de Cure Sunday. March 22, 2022, at Lake Nona, Orlando, Florida. I am a 77 year old Viet Nam Veteran with a Veterans Administration Herbicide related disability rating for Diabetes.
Because I have diabetes and am riding in the Tour de Cure, I have earned the designation RED RIDER. The Lake Nona Tour de Cure will be my SEVENTEENTH Tour de Cure as a RED RIDER since 2013. My prior Tours de Cure include one in Washington, DC, two in Longmont, CO, one in Houston, TX, eight in Orlando, FL, one in St Petersburg, FL, and one in Jacksonville, FL. I have done “Virtual Tours de Cure” in Anchorage, AK, and Seattle, WA. I will update this page as I add more Tours de Cure to my schedule. I earn a distinctive RED RIDER bicycling jersey for each of these rides. I wear them proudly on many of my local bicycle rides. I have even received the traditional Tour de Cure greeting for Red Riders, "GO RED RIDER," on my local Florida rides. I have also worn my RED RIDER jerseys in Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Austria, and The United Kingdom, The picture is of me in one of my RED RIDER jerseys at the GLENELG BEACH in Adelaide, South Australia. The Indian Ocean is in the background.
These are so much more than cycling events to me. They are my opportunity to change the future and make a positive impact in the lives of those who are affected by diabetes, including myself and other Viet Nam Veterans.
My diabetes is under control today with the help of medications and educational material developed by and with the American Diabetes Association and my passion for bicycle riding.
I am committed to ride and raise money in these inspirational events not only because 26 million people in the United States have diabetes, but because I personally know many of them, I am one of them, and I want to do something about it. Won’t you help me start a chain reaction?
Chances are, you also know someone who has been affected by diabetes and you already know how important it is to stop this disease. By making a donation on my behalf or by joining my team, you will be helping the Association provide community-based education programs, protect the rights of people with diabetes and fund critical research for a cure.
With your help, we will fight for a future where a parent does not have to hear that their child has diabetes. A future where an adult does not have to face the uncertain times ahead after receiving a diabetes diagnosis. A future where you and I will know that we had a part in making this possible.
Because I have diabetes I regard the minimum fund raising goal, $250, as my personal entry fee for each Tour de Cure in which I ride.
Your donations towards my total fund raising goal will help relieve the suffering of current and future victims of diabetes in our efforts to live as normal a life as possible.
I truly appreciate your support. Together we can Stop Diabetes!
