It's 2021 and another set of virtual Tour de Cure events. Diabetes did not disappear in 2020 but we were sad to miss the camaraderie of an in-person tour last year and will miss it again this year.
I began to fundraise for diabetes several years ago as I saw it impacting friends and family. It is a common and costly chronic disease. In the US, 30 million are diagnosed and half of adults over 65 have prediabetes. It adds risk and severity to those with Covid-19. Those with obesity and diabetes face a double whammy if infected with Covid-19.
The pandemic has not lessened the need for organizations like the American Diabetes Association (ADA). With safety precautions, fundraising has taken a kick in the side.
Several years ago, a few of us, formed "Sweet Spokes", a fundraising team to participate in the Twin Cities Tour de Cure, one of a series of national fundraising events. We are small fundraising (and bicycling) team aiming to deliver meaningful donations to the ADA prior to their Twin Cities virtual event on June 5, 2021.
I ask you to stay safe, stay active and please donate generously. Understand your contributions are truly appreciated. [The picture is from March 2021 when Dorothy and I were in Arizona. A few days later we dashed home.]
