Hi Friends and Family,
After many years of participating in the annual Tour de Cure I am proud to be participating as part of the UM TYPE-ONE-derful! Diabetes Club Team.
For those of you that don't know, I am currently a Junior majoring in Studio Art and minoring in Psychology at the University of Maine. I was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes at age 4. For years, I have been involved in the Tour de Cure. It supports the American Diabetes Association.
In 2020, I began founding the UM Diabetes Club. This year, it is an official club at UMaine. We have 30 proud members. Our club includes diabetic students and allies.
Our goal is to raise $1,000. By making a donation or joining our team, you will be helping the Association provide community-based educational programs, protect the rights of people with diabetes and fund critical research for a cure.
We want to lead. We want to inspire. We want to empower. We want a cure!
Type 1 diabetics spend hours planning and taking care of themselves in ways that aren't necessary for others. There are many factors that affect our health and day to day energy levels. It could be as simple as a small air bubble in our insulin tubing that leaves us feeling nauseous all day. In many instances, we must prioritize our health, so we don’t live a life that leads to complications. A cure would mean that over 34 million people would be able to chase new dreams and have more energy to devote to themselves, their families and their professional goals.
The 2022 Tour de Cure will be in an in person event. It will be held at Fractyl Health
17 Hartwell Avenue Lexington, MA 02421, on 08/21/2022. There will be 15-mile, 30-Mile, 62-Mile, 100-Mile Routes.
There is a registration fee of $10 for riders attending the event in person. Participants riding in person at Tour de Cure are required to raise $250 ($50 for youth 17 and under). If you have questions send me an email at anastasia.lipp@maine.edu, or reach me by phone at 207-756-4200. As a T1D, I can say that it gives me hope and a sense of empowerment to fundraise each year. Your participation is greatly appreciated!
