Welcome to my Tour de Cure page!
I am asking you to support me in the Tour de Cure® because finding a cure for diabetes is urgent and personally means so much to me.
This year Tour de Cure celebrates 30 years of making an impact in communities nationwide and I’m riding to champion the over 34 million Americans living with this terrible disease because they need our support.
Help Me Reach My Goal! When you donate you make an immediate impact:
- You spread awareness of the devastating effects of diabetes.
- You advocate for a child with diabetes to have the same learning opportunities at school.
- You fund life-saving research that will bring us closer to a cure.
- You provide access to community programs and free resources that help those living with diabetes.
By participating in the Tour de Cure, I hope to inspire others to join me in this vital mission.
Thank you for making a generous donation to this cause that is so important to me.
My Story:
If we have met I have probably asked you: Do you run? Are you in a bible study? and/or Do you cycle? "Cycling is a part of my life because it saved my life." I have Type II diabetes and without cycling I don't know if I would be fundraising right now. BUT I am so Team Doculogix is back at it and counting on your support in the upcoming Tour De Cure Ride. My riding buddies at Team Doculogix and I are going to stop talking about cycling and start preparing for The Tour de Cure on Oct. 21st, 2023. Some of you reading this are going to be asked to Join Team Doculogix, others, I am asking for your support.
Over 8 years ago I was training for a cycling event and I started getting really bad stomach cramps during my rides and then it got worse. I had just finished riding and I did not make it out of the parking lot before I had to pull over and became nauseous. This became my routine every other day after a bike ride. Ride - throw up, Ride - throw up. I thought, “It’s the heat, I will be okay” I do live in Texas, RIGHT!?!
Then the “normal” [diabetes] symptoms started. I couldn’t make it through the night without getting up to go to the bathroom at least once. Then it was twice, then 3 times, and eventually I spent most the night going to the bathroom and not sleeping. I drank any and all liquids and could not quench my thirst. As my body began pumping “syrup” my eyesight and hearing presented a whole new adventure in DRIVING.
I am asking for your support because this is more than a bike ride. I pray for a cure for me and over 34 million people and their families who are impacted by diabetes. I am forever grateful for all of those willing to help and thank you for supporting me! Every little bit helps and NO donation is too small.
I leave you with this, I posted a picture of me with my kids on the first day of school last year on social media, same pic on this page but I added a comparison of when I was diagnosed. I received a TON of comments of "WOW you look great." I haven't done a single thing to lose the recent weight, my disease is eating away at me, killing me as my body tries to fight it.
