Diabetes has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Growing up my grandmother had diabetes. Back then there were only one or two pills and insulin available. At first, she took pills and then insulin. She was never a heavy woman and was always active. That was the course of diabetes back then.
My brother and sister were diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes typically when most people are, in their 50s. Fortunately, they both made lifestyle changes that changed the course and didn't progress. That's not the case for many people.
My wife is the youngest of four children. All three of her siblings were diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in their teen years. It was a part of their family life and they all managed it to varying degrees. In fact, two have lived over fifty years with diabetes.
It seems like I was destined to be involved in diabetes professionally. For over fifteen years I worked as a Diabetes Care & Education Specialist in outpatient diabetes care at the Joslin Diabetes Center and Southcoast Health. I have seen the good and not so good sides of diabetes. The field has taken me all over the world, into communities gravely impacted by diabetes, and into the lives of amazing people.
I have met many selfless diabetes care professionals. They are passionate, caring, and committed to their profession and the prevention and management of diabetes.
For these reasons and countless others, I am asking you to support me in the Tour de Cure because finding a cure for diabetes is urgent and personally means so much to me. For over 30 years, Tour de Cure has helped impact communities nationwide and I’m riding to support the over 34 million Americans living with diabetes. Help Me Reach My Goal!
When you donate you make an immediate impact:
- You spread awareness of the devastating effects of diabetes.
- You advocate for a child with diabetes to have the same learning opportunities at school.
- You fund life-saving research that will bring us closer to a cure.
- You provide access to community programs and free resources that help those living with diabetes.
By participating in the Tour de Cure, I hope to inspire others to join me in this vital mission.
Thank you for making a generous donation to this cause that is so important to me.
