I am asking you to support me in the Tour de Cure® because finding a cure for diabetes means so much to me.
I joined the Tour de Cure because today alone over 4,100 people will be diagnosed and because more than 30 million adults and children in the United States are living with this terrible disease. It's also a personal challenge because I am fortunate to have the opportunity to do something to help others in need.
In 2019 I was diagnosed with 65%, 85%, and 100% blockages in my coronary arteries. I underwent open heart surgery on May 2nd for triple bypass and that procedure was followed by two more heart surgeries before the end of the year. My surgeons, nurses, cardiac rehab staff, and countless friends and relatives have worked hard and encouraged me to heal and get better. I'm better and I'm stronger because of them - and I don't want to have a single one of them think they wasted their time saving me.
I am one of the lucky ones with the ability and support to undertake this challenge. It's a good cause and the disease affects so many people we know that I am determined to make a difference.
