Hello! My name is Susan Carleton and I have had Type 1 Diabetes for over 50 years.
I am taking part in the Tour de Cure this year for the first time, as I believe in what the American Diabetes Association is doing to help all people with Diabetes. The research they invest in country-wide and that gets shared world-wide is amazing. They focus on making our lives easier day by day. They focus on how to keep us healthy through medication research and nutrition. The focus on promising research that will even possibly overcome the damage to the genetics that causes Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes and, promises to improve the metabolic reactions of our bodies to better simulate a healthy adult.
I am pledging to walk at least 50 miles between now and October 10th, 2021, the majority of which will be done in the two weeks before the Ride/Walk/Participation date. Join me in my walking and donate on my behalf or anyone else you know – my nephew for example, with only a couple of years of this under his belt. I walk for my family, the friends I have lost over recent years to this condition, the friends I have made through meet-ups, conferences and online. I walk for the children yet to be diagnosed with Type 2 or Type 1, and the Adults yet to be diagnosed with Type 1 or Type 2. I walk for those who may be diagnosed with one of the several other types of Diabetes and their many variants.
I walk for the cure, because if I don’t - or we won’t - who will?
Love and strength to you all <3
