It consumes our every thought. We obsess about it every night. It's constantly on our minds during the day. We sheltered-in-place in the last 16 months so we didn't bring COVID-19 home. If we stop obsessing, our son dies.
Welcome to being a parent of a child with Type 1 Diabetes. We have been on this journey with our son for seven years. When he was diagnosed, we were thrown into his brave new world.
Ryan’s pre-existing condition is forever. There is no cure. Yet. While we celebrate him growing and remaining healthy every day, as parents we rely on organizations like the American Diabetes Association to ensure we understand how he is protected by federal laws in our schools. That there is a sleep away summer camp he can go to that is staffed by endocrinologists and nurses to keep kids like Ryan safe. That talented researchers focused on diabetes are funded to continue to search for a cure.
1 in 11 Americans lives with diabetes. 40,000 people are diagnosed every year. Every 23 seconds someone is diagnosed. And with COVID, people with diabetes may be 2x more likely to die.
I am committed to ride and raise money in this inspirational event not because 34 million people in the United States have diabetes, but because I personally know one of them, and I want to do something about it. Won’t you help me start a chain reaction?
By making a donation on my behalf or by joining my team, you will be helping the Association provide community-based education programs, protect the rights of people with diabetes and fund critical research for a cure.
I truly appreciate your support. Together we can Stop Diabetes!
