Although we both have diabetes, our journey's were very different. My mother managed her blood sugars by diet and exercise and taking her medications. Eventually, she was able to stop all her diabetic medicine! Yay Mom!
Me, not quite so easy. I took my medications (at one point taking three different pills to help control my blood sugar) for 1.5 years and I still couldn't get my A1C to an acceptable level. So I was referred to a specialist for more tests. It ended up that I am really Type 1 and had to start insulin.
Today, with the help of my insulin pump, careful carbohydrate monitoring/calculating, and daily exercise, my sugars are finally "under control".
I set a goal to start giving back by volunteering with the ADA and signing up to ride in the Hampton Roads Tour de Cure. Go Casual Cyclists! (That's our picture above).
I am doing my best to help raise awareness and funds to find a cure within my life time so that others impacted and those that may be impacted have better choices for their future.
I appreciate all of your support and help to Stop Diabetes!
