2023 Step Out: DC/MD/NOVA

Cortez Jason Malloy

At age 34, my beloved son, Cortez Jason Malloy, was diagnosed with Type-2 Diabetes. After experiencing increasing symptoms and enduring further testing, he was diagnosed with Type-1. On January 22, 2023, at age 38, my beloved Cortez passed away, but his love and light live on.

Complications from Diabetes can lead to disabilities, to the degree it can threaten one's life. Over time, Type-1 Diabetes often affects major organs in the body, along with causing high blood pressure, glaucoma, nausea, vomiting, and so much more.

Cortez loved playing basketball. From his toddler years clear through to adulthood, basketball was like his first love. Sadly, as an adult, he could not play the game he loved due to nerve damage that caused tingling, numbness, burning sensations, and severe pain—all directly attributed to Diabetes. As a mother, it broke my heart as I spoke with him, trying to assist with managing his pain.

Cortez loved moving his feet on the basketball court and the dance floor! Please join me and move your feet as you donate for Cortez! Diabetes never stops, and neither will I. So, join me and the American Diabetes Association's Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes. We are united in our mission to raise critical research funds and find a cure.

So many of our loved ones are suffering from this condition, and you can help. I walk for Cortez and to bring awareness to this often deadly disease. I fundraise because I want to make a difference. Every donation is important, as people with Diabetes need our help now more than ever.

Please donate, join our team! or start your own fundraiser for diabetes. We are Connected for Life, and Step Out is a great way to come together and support one another.
