Did you know that 12% of all adults or nearly 700,000 people have diabetes in Indiana?
I know the hardships that diabetes brings. My mother was a Type II diabetic. She struggled for years to control her blood sugar. Daily finger sticks and insulin shots were a challenge for her to reamin consistent. Diabetes casued her to have neuropathy and was major factor in her detoriating kidney fucntion. Dialysis was being discussed with her doctor and she would have likely had to start it in the coming years. Unfortunately, she passed away in 2020 as result of heart attack that was caused by a spike in her potassium levels likely from the poor kideny function. Did diabetes kill her? Hard to say, but it mostly certainly was a major factor in her overall health and ultimately her death.
Again, 700,000 people in our state alone and 34 Million people in the US are fighting this disease. Likely everyone of us has a friend or family member impcated.
I hope you will consider joing the ADA walk and/or donating to this cause. Our friends and family need our support.
