My family has diabetes on both my mom and dad's sides. Diabetes has impacted my dad, an aunt on either side of my family, and a great aunt on my mom's side. Even with all these warnings, I was invincible and it wouldn't touch me. And yet it did. When I was pregnant with Evelyn I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. I followed a strict diet and took medication. I am now at greater risk of developing diabetes as I age and have had some warning signs that I cannot ignore. I also know that with diabetes on both sides of my family my children are at a greater risk as well. For the past couple years, even with injuries, I have been working out, being active and getting healthy. I am already part of the statistics, now I want to be part of the cure!
The 2022 Step Out: Michigan (formerly Tour de Cure) will be my eigth year participating. I participate in this event as motivation to stay healthy and get moving. I am also particpating in memory of my father who died in February, 2020.
Five years ago, I became a Champion by raising $1,000. It felt amazing and I made that my goal every year from now on! The event is being held this fall and I'm starting my fundraiting early to meet my goal. Will you please help me?
I truly appreciate your support.
