Welcome to my Step Out page!
I am asking you to support me in the Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes® event because our daughter (Lindsey) has been living with Type 1 diabetes since she was 9 years old. While she's 19 now, spreading her wings and seemingly managing this chronic disease, the reality is that diabetes is more pervasive than people realize and it's not easy to live with. Over 133 Million Americans live with diabetes or prediabetes... and diabetes contributes to incidents of stokes/heart attacks, kidney disease/dialysis, amputations, blindness, mental health challenges and more. “New study says diabetes could be the defining disease of the century“- Please take 5 minutes to watch this CNN video segment… https://www.cnn.com/videos/health/2023/07/03/exp-diabetes-agarwal-intv-070301aseg1-cnni-world.cnn#:~:text=New%20study%20says%20diabetes%20could%20be%20the%20defining%20disease%20of%20the%20century,-Ad%20Feedback&text=Experts%20are%20warning%20of%20a,Agarwal%20about%20the%20stark%20assessment
I'm asking you to join us in our mission to prevent and cure diabetes and help improve the lives of everyone affected by diabetes. You can help in three ways... 1. Register for Step Out and walk with us (in-person or virtually); 2. Help us fundraise... it's fun; 3. Make a one-time donation if you don't prefer the first two options.
As the Executive Director of the DC/MD/NOVA region, my staff and I are working diligently to connect with the diverse communitites we serve throughout our region. We’re in the community conducting Diabetes 101 sessions (including food/cooking demos), attending health & wellness fairs, collaborating with corporate partners, and hosting forums to give underserved communities a voice to their most pressing issues impacting health outcomes.
When you donate you make an immediate impact:
- You spread awareness of the devastating effects of diabetes.
- You advocate for a child with diabetes to have the same learning opportunities at school.
- You fund life-saving research that will bring us closer to a cure.
- You provide access to community programs and free resources that help those living with diabetes.
Thank you!
