Welcome to my fundraising page!
As many of you know I have type 2 diabetes. I was originally diagnosed in 2014 placed on metformin and asked if I understood what it meant to be a diabetic. I said yes because my Mom was type 2. Boy was I wrong! Fast forward to March 2019 and I was sent to a specialist because although I was avoiding sugar at all cost my A1C was still in terrible shape. My doctor asked me how do I like my news tempered or direct. I wanted direct answeres and I got them. My doctor explained that my body was already shutting down from the disease and had taken on serious damage. He basically told me I needed to turn my life around or I wasn't going to have much of a life left. I was to revist him in 6 months. In the mean time he sent me to a class with materials provided by the American Diabetes Association. These materials and that class changed my life. I was on two drugs at the end of March to help control my diabetes 6 months later he took me off 1 and 6 months after that I was off all drugs. I had one more check up in 6 months to make sure I can maintain diet control and I did it. Now I am striving to give more people the same chance I had and to help the ones who don't.
I joined the American Diabetes Association because today alone over 4,100 people will be diagnosed and because more than 30 million adults and children in the United States are living with this terrible disease.
Help Me Reach My Goal! When you donate:
- You spread awareness of the devastating effects of diabetes.
- You advocate for a child with diabetes to have the same learning opportunities at school.
- You fund life-saving research.
- You provide access to community programs and free resources that help those living with diabetes.
Thank you for making a generous donation to this cause that is so important to me.
