As many of you may recall, on February 2nd, 2000, my kind, caring sister Colleen passed away from years of multiple complications with Type 1 Diabetes. To honor Colleen, I joined Team Diabetes, trained and walked the 2003 Kona Hawaii Marathon in Kona Hawaii. Well . . . This year, after twice being misdiagnosed, my daughter Melanie laid in ICU in Ketoacidosis with a now correct Diabetes diagnosis. Together, we started swimming 1 mile daily.
Since I was born in 1960 and am turning 60 on Friday, November 20th - I want to make turning 60 Meaningful. So, I again chose to join Team Diabetes. As I participated in the 2003 Kona Marathon at age 42, starting at 3:00pm on Friday, November 20th, I will swim 2.4 miles (88 pool lengths - I'm pushing for 100), the swimming portion of the Kona Hawaii Ironman Traiathlon. Perhaps I'll do the 112-mile bike portion at age 70!!!
I joined Team Diabetes because today alone over 4,100 people will be diagnosed with diabetes and because more than 30 million adults and children in the United States are living with this terrible disease.
Help Me Reach My Goal - $1/length would be an awesome donation as would any other $$ amount you choose.
When you donate:
* You spread awareness of the devastating effects of diabetes.
* You advocate for a child discriminated against in school because of diabetes.
* You fund life-saving research.
* You provide access to community programs and free resources that help.
Please join Team Diabetes with me by donating to the ADA. Thank you for making a generous donation to this cause that is so important to me and my family.
