Teaming up in the fight against diabetes.
The Hawaii Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Sorority Inc. is now a part of Team Diabetes and we're fundraising to support the American Diabetes Association!
We joined Team Diabetes because today alone over 4,100 people will be diagnosed with diabetes. Additionally, more than 30 million adults and children in the United States are living with this terrible disease. African Americans are disproportionately affected by Diabetes due to genetic and environmental factors. Obesity is one of the greatest contributors to diabetes, and particularly affects Black women and adolescent girls. We are advocating for increased awareness as risks for developing diabetes can be lowered by managing one's weight, implementing dietary changes, managing stress, exercising, and visiting health providers regularly.
