The UN Recognizes World Diabetes Day!
Thank you for your willingness to take action. With the help of Diabetes Advocates like yourself, we are pleased to report that the U.N. Resolution on Diabetes passed by consensus at the United Nations General Assembly on December 20!
The Resolution recognizes the global threat of the diabetes epidemic and for for the first time, governments have acknowledged that a non-infectious disease poses as serious a threat to world health as infectious diseases like HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. The Resolution also designates November 14 as World Diabetes Day, as a United Nations Day to be observed every year starting in 2007 and calls on all U.N. Member States to observe the day and to develop national policies for the prevention, treatment and care of diabetes.
We look forward to your contibued support as we work to help shape these policies at both the state and federal level in the upcoming year.
