Ask Congress to Fund the Government

Congress needs to act NOW to prevent a government shutdown and fund the federal government to ensure that critical diabetes research and programs continue. Will you tell your senators and representative why diabetes funding matters? They need to know that YOU support diabetes funding.

Without congressional action, funding for the Division of Diabetes Translation (DDT) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) will halt on November 21. CDC’s work is essential to translate groundbreaking research into communities all over the country, and NIDDK conducts most diabetes research. Tell Congress to finish their work on fiscal year 2020 and provide diabetes research and programs with meaningful funding increases.

Why do you care about diabetes research and programs? Personalizing your letter is extremely important! Personalized emails will have a greater impact than form emails.

Dear [Decision Maker],

As your constituent, I urge you to support people with and at risk for diabetes and increase funding for diabetes research and programs in fiscal year (FY) 2020. Please work with your congressional colleagues to fully fund the government for FY 2020 before the continuing resolution (CR) expires on November 21. CRs are disruptive to federal agencies, making it harder for them to plan, retain staff, and fund the most promising research and programs.

By supporting significant funding in FY 2020 for NIDDK, DDT, and the National DPP, you can improve the lives of all Americans living with and at risk for this devastating disease. Thank you for your consideration, and I look forward to hearing from you.
