Diabetes Research Victory!

Thousands of Diabetes Advocates recently urged Congress to renew federal diabetes funding, and lawmakers listened! For the first time in 22 years, Congress has funded an entire year of diabetes research and programs before the beginning of the year fiscal year, which began October 1. Our victory means that the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will be able to continue lifesaving diabetes programs.

This recent show of support deserves recognition. Send your members of Congress a message supporting funding for diabetes research and programs.

Dear [Decision Maker],

On behalf of all Americans living with and at-risk for diabetes, I am grateful that the House and Senate approved the Labor, Health and Human Services appropriations legislation for fiscal year (FY) 2019 prior to the start of the fiscal year.

As you know, the human and economic cost of diabetes is devastating. Today, more than 30 million Americans have diabetes and 84 million more have prediabetes. What's more, the annual cost of diagnosed diabetes has skyrocketed to $327 billion. A future free of diabetes requires continued investment in research and programs. I stand beside you ready to work to make this future a reality.

Thank you,
