Support Californians With Diabetes

Right now, health insurance coverage for many hard-working, low-income California families does not cover continuous glucose monitors (CGM) even if their doctors prescribe it! 33 states' Medicaid programs already cover CGM, but California does not.

Fortunately, there are budget proposals enabling Medi-Cal to cover this benefit when a physician deems it necessary for disease management.

Will you tell your legislators that coverage for CGM is critical for people with diabetes?

Dear [Decision Maker],

As someone with a personal connection to diabetes, I know that having access to the proper care makes all the difference in maintaining health and avoiding the costly and disabling complications associated with diabetes including blindness, amputation, kidney failure, heart disease and stroke.

33 states' Medicaid programs already cover this benefit and now we have a chance to make coverage better for Californians too. Senate Budget Subcommittee 3 and Assembly Budget Subcommittee 1 Committee on Health will be considering proposals enabling Medi-Cal to cover CGM when prescribed by a patient's physician as necessary to disease management.

We need your support to help people on Medi-Cal who are struggling with diabetes stay healthy and reduce their risk for disabling and costly complications.

Will you support these proposals and encourage your colleagues to do so as well?

Gratefully,
