Tell Our New Jersey Legislators to Help Stop Diabetes

Right now, health insurance coverage for many hard working, low income New Jersey families does not cover basic education that people with diabetes need to learn how to best manage their diabetes, or how to best prevent type 2 diabetes.

Fortunately, there is legislation before the New Jersey Assembly Committee on Health and Senior Services that would add coverage for critical patient training about diabetes management, nutrition, and diabetes prevention in our state’s Medicaid program.

Will you tell your legislators that insurance coverage for diabetes is critical for citizens in New Jersey?

Support Assembly Bill 3460 to Help Stop Diabetes

Dear [Decision Maker],

As someone with a personal connection to diabetes, I know that many horrendous complications from diabetes can be prevented or delayed. The development of type 2 diabetes can also frequently be prevented or delayed.

Unfortunately, health insurance coverage for many hard working, low income New Jersey families does not cover basic education that people with diabetes need to learn how to best manage their diabetes, or how to best prevent the development of type 2 diabetes. This lack of coverage puts those with prediabetes at greater risk for developing diabetes and those with diabetes at greater risk for costly emergency room visits, hospitalizations, and treatment for the disease's disabling or deadly complications including blindness, amputation of the lower extremities, kidney failure, heart disease, and stroke.

You now have a chance to change this. There is legislation before the New Jersey Assembly Committee on Health and Senior Services that represents a giant leap forward in prevention of diabetes and improving diabetes care by adding coverage for critical patient training about diabetes management, nutrition, and diabetes prevention.

Research has demonstrated the value of these services for patients in improving their outcomes. We need your support for Assembly Bill 3460 to help turn around the diabetes epidemic affecting so many of your constituents.

Please support AB 3460 when it comes before the committee on Thursday, February 5th. Thank you for considering this critical step to help Stop Diabetes in New Jersey!

Sincerely,
