Dear [Decision Maker],

As your constituent, I stand with the American Diabetes Association in asking that you find a legislative compromise to accept federal funding to cover more uninsured residents through Medicaid. Nearly 50,000 more Granite Staters will have health coverage through the expansion, dramatically cutting the state's uninsured rate. A compromise must also ensure Medicaid beneficiaries insured through private coverage still have the benefits and protections afforded to them by the federal Medicaid rules, including cost sharing protections.

People without health insurance don't have access to timely preventive care. Silent killers such as diabetes often go undetected even as they lead to devastating complications. Increasing the number of low-income, hardworking citizens who are insured will mean more people receive the proper preventive care and screenings they need. And it will mean people with diabetes have access to the tools they need in the fight against blindness, amputation, heart and kidney disease.

The state of New Hampshire will not owe anything for covering these newly eligible individuals through 2016. By 2020, the state will pay only ten percent of the cost of this expansion. If the federal government fails to meet its match amounts for the expansion group, New Hampshire can decide at that time to stop participation.

I urge you to help find a compromise, and to vote Yes on Medicaid expansion. By doing so, you will protect both uninsured residents in New Hampshire and our state's fiscal health.

Sincerely,
