Help Stop The Diabetes Epidemic

If we hope to stop the diabetes epidemic, we must advance research and prevention. The president’s budget request would do the opposite by cutting $6 billion in funding to the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

This would be a devastating blow to the medical research that improves the lives of many Americans. Tell your members of Congress to reject the president’s proposal to cut funding for NIH. Funding for NIH has always been bipartisan and we cannot allow scientific breakthroughs for people with diabetes to stall now.

Why does medical research matter to you? Personalizing your letter is extremely important! Personalizing your letter is extremely important!

Reject cuts to NIH and CDC: Support your constituents

Dear [Decision Maker],

As your constituent and a person affected by diabetes, I stand with the American Diabetes Association in asking you to urge you to reject the president's request to cut funding for NIH by $6 billion, or nearly 20%.

The Senate and the House have always shown bipartisan support for NIH funding and I urge you to further recent investments. Specifically, I ask that you support $2.165 billion in Fiscal Year 2018 for the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Disease (NIDDK) at NIH, the institute that is best poised to find improved treatments and eventually a cure and for diabetes.

Again, I hope you will demonstrate your support for your constituents with diabetes by supporting funding for vital diabetes research and prevention programs at the NIH and CDC. With mortality and prevalence increasing at an alarming rate, the diabetes epidemic demands immediate attention.

Sincerely,
